AHCC®
- Comparison to MGN3 and PeakImmune4 |

An independent scientific comparison was
performed in order to investigate the difference between the nutritional
supplement MGN-3 distributed by Lane Labs, and AHCC®
manufactured by Amino-Up Chemical Company in Japan and distributed under
the brands ImmPower and Source Naturals. This comparison disproved the
claim that MGN-3 is a more powerful immune supporting supplement.

Since PeakImmune4 is said by the manufacturer
Daiwa Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. to
be identical to MGN-3, AHCC would be 160% more effective than PeakImmune4™ also.

An independent comparison of MGN-3 and AHCC® has disproved the claim that
MGN-3 is a more powerful Immune supporting supplement. On the measure of
Natural Killer (NK) cell function, the primary focus of the MNG-3 claims,
an equal amount of AHCC was found to increase NK cell cytotoxicity on
average by 24% more than MGN-3
The study was undertaken at our request by Dr. M. Hosokawa of Hokkaido
University, Division of Cancer Pathobiology, Institute for Genetic
Medicine, in Sapporo, Japan. Dr. Hosokawa is extensively published in the
subjects of cancer biology and immunotherapy. He obtained commercially
available quantities of MGN-3 and AHCC from Emerson Ecologics, Inc., a U.S
distributor of both products.
Healthy 8-week old male BALB/C mice were
treated with equal amounts of AHCC or MGN-3 1g/kg bw/day, orally
administered for 7 days. Control mice were treated with tap water at the
same volume. At day 7, the mice were sacrificed, spleens were removed and
NK cells were isolated. Using the PKH67 Green Flourescent Cell Linker Kit
(SIGMA, St. Louis, MO) , NK cell cytotoxicity was measured against PKH67
stained Yac-1 target cells, at Effector: Target ratios of 100:1, 50:1,
25:1, 12.5:1.

The claims by Mamdooh Ghomeum, the patent holder of MGN-3 and Andy Lane of
Lane Labs in sales literature, that “MGN-3 has proven to be six times more
effective that AHCC…” have never been substantiated - either by third
party research, or by Dr. Ghoneum’s own research, which is by nature
biased.
This independent study, though limited in scope should be sufficient to
show that the MGN-3 claims are false. The best comparison of the two
products is found by reviewing the published research on both. Almost all
the research on MGN-3 has been conducted by Dr. Ghoneum, whose financial
interest in the sale of that product should raise questions. In contrast,
there is a substantial body of research on AHCC, done by many different
groups of independent doctors, pre-clinical animal studies, and human
clinical trials illustrating mechanisms of action, enhancement of immune
system function and improvement in clinical status.
